IMMUNO TECHNOLOGICAL TECHNIQUES

Image

Immunological techniques include both experimental methods to study the immune system and methods to generate or use immunological reagents as experimental tools. The most common immunological methods relate to the production and use of antibodies to detect specific proteins in biological samples.

Antigens are any substance that the immune system can recognize and that can thus stimulate an immune response. B cells (B lymphocytes) are white blood cells that produce antibodies specific to the antigen that stimulated their production.

The concept of immunity from disease dates back at least to Greece in the 5th century BC. Thucydides wrote of individuals who recovered from the plague, which was raging in Athens at the time.
